The holidays are almost here! Thanksgiving always seems to mark the unofficial kick-off of the holiday season, and you’re going to want to be here at Superior Shores Resort to celebrate this jolly time! There are lots of options for North Shore Lodging along Lake Superior this winter season, but there is something special and homey about Superior Shores Resort. It could be the fact that while you’re out exploring all the holiday events and frolicking through the snow, your home away from home waits for you beyond our lobby doors. So, celebrate the season with us and make sure to check out these three-holiday events while you’re in town!

Winter Villages

On December 2-3, 2017 you’ll be able to experience two fantastic wintertime markets this year. The Julebyen is a Scandinavian tradition meaning Christmas Village, and it’s hosted in Knife River, which is a short drive from your North Shore lodging at Superior Shores Resort! You can also head down 61 towards Duluth and stop at Glensheen for the Duluth Winter Village that same weekend. We’re sure you’ll get all of your shopping done when you visit these two fabulous markets this winter. Featuring local artistry and shops, as well as food and beverages, events like these are what make up the northland this winter season.

Holiday Tours

It seems like when the holidays come around there are tons of holiday-themed tours to visit and this year there is no exception on the North Shore. When night falls, we recommend checking out Bentleyville, America’s most extensive free of charge walk-through light display. Not only is this illuminated walk great for all ages, it’s also a free event! Be sure to dress warmly, bring a donation for the local food shelf, and grab a hot cocoa when you’re there!

If you’re more into something Christmasy, head to Glensheen Mansion for their Holiday Tour! This historic home tour features 25 Christmas trees in a beautiful 39 bedroom mansion, and you might even get to taste a sweet treat during your visit. Whether you opt for a daytime tour or the candlelight tour at night, you’ll love learning about the history of the house along the way.

Seasonal Favorite

While you’re here vacationing along the shores of Lake Superior, you’ll want to check out our seasonal favorite this holiday season. On December 21, 2017, head to the Two Harbors Lighthouse, for the Two Harbors Winter Solstice Celebration! With lots of hot cocoa to keep you warm, you’ll get to enjoy one of our famous bonfires, while people send off sky lanterns while telling stories about the solstice. Make sure you have a flashlight with and boots to keep your toes warm!

As winter came early this year, with a record snowfall along the North Shore at the end of October, you’re going to enjoy this time when things light up and time spent with family and friends is cherished. Vacation at one of the best North Shore lodging options, Superior Shores Resort, this season before the New Year’s rings in and we’re looking at 2018.
