Have you ever wondered what life is like under the water of Lake Superior? If so, now is the time to get out and explore the sunken world, underneath the waves. While our grand lake is a common place for fun and water activities, scuba diving is rarely mentioned as one of them. Here at Superior Shores Resort, in Two Harbors MN, we’re invested in making sure you get the most out of your stay with us and (if you’re up for it!) explore the depths of the open waters when you head out on your next adventure!
Scuba in Superior
If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary this summer season, head out on a charter or scuba dive your way through Lake Superior. You might be wondering why diving? Diving in Lake Superior has become more and more popular over the years as there are quite a few shipwrecks to traverse. It also allows you to see the underwater life of the lake from a different angle than kayaking or canoeing.
For experienced divers or those working on certification, you’ll enjoy heading out on a trip with Superior Scuba Center. At Superior Scuba, you can embark on a weekend certification course which is perfect for wanting to learn how to scuba dive and then schedule their open dive course a few days later. When you choose that option, it also means you get to spend more time at Superior Shores Resort!
Lake Superior Divers and Supply School also offers great options for those wanting to explore the depths of Lake Superior. With an extensive list of courses and classes to try, you’ll be sure to scuba your way through the Great Lakes.
Some famous shipwreck sites include The “Thomas Wilson,” The “Mayflower,” and The “Madeira,” while some dive sites can include Gooseberry Reef, Split-Rock Lighthouse Cliff, and Shovel-Point.
North Shore Cruise
If you choose not to learn how to dive, take a drive north to Silver Bay Marina and hop aboard the historic M/V Wenonah for a North Shore Scenic Cruise. You’ll be able to see a separate side of Lake Superior. Experience some of the North Shore’s most iconic locations like Split-Rock Lighthouse, Baptism River, Palisade Head, and Shovel Point, along with information about The “Madeira” Shipwreck. Check the weather and bring warmer clothing as the temperature tends to be colder on the lake than the shoreline.
Experience the beauty of Lake Superior from a different angle this summer season when you embark on an adventure of a lifetime underwater! Whether you’re new to the diving scene or well-versed in the diving lifestyle, get to know the Lake from shipwrecks to the magnificent shoreline caves and every marine animal in between. After touring our grand lake, make sure your home away from home is in Two Harbors MN at Superior Shores Resort this summer. We’re looking forward to hearing all about your water – and other – adventures!
