While summer is slowly upon us here at Superior Shores Resort, it’s technically still springtime. As the weather starts warming up, it’s an excellent time to get out on the lake for some kayaking and canoeing. When you stay with us, you’re only steps away from the shoreline; you’ll be able to kick-off your kayaking or canoeing trip right around the edge of Lake Superior. Get ready for an outdoor, lakeside adventure you won’t want to miss!
Lake Superior is the largest of the great lakes, and when you enter her cold waters you’ll be in for a treat, but, be ready for it! The wind and water pull and move (not always gracefully) which is why we recommend heading out to the lake with skilled tour groups. If you are accustomed to the rapid change of the Lake, Palisade Head is a great option. We’re sure you’ll experience sea caves and beautiful arches cut along the rocky shoreline.
If you’re not sure you can handle the rougher, ‘inland seas’ of Lake Superior, it’s a good thing you’re vacationing in the state of 10,000 lakes! There are so many lakes you’ll be able to traverse which will have calmer waters. Check out Brule Lake; it’s HUGE if you don’t know, but it also offers spectacular lakeside views.
Other fantastic locations include Shovel Point, Split Rock Lighthouse, and Tettegouche State Park.
Here at Superior Shores, we have many guests who bring their kayaks or canoes, but fear not – there are plenty of outfitters and rentals around Two Harbors if you don’t have your own.
If you’re going for a drive up the North Shore, Sawtooth Outfitters in Tofte, MN is an option for those wanting a one-stop-shop. They offer summer rentals of just about anything your heart could want for your northern getaway; such as kayaks, canoes, paddleboards, bikes, and more. Plus, we recommend that you try their guided tours! Half and full day options let you explore much for Lake Superior and the surrounding areas.
Another great rental company, Harbor Kayak and Paddleboard Rentals, is located right here in Two Harbors! Started by two friends, this rental company sets up shop on Burlington Bay and offers their guests kayak rentals among other options like paddleboards. Burlington Bay is located on the north side of Two Harbors, while Agate Bay is slightly south, which makes up the two harbors of our cute town! You’ll want to check out each of these bays for their breath-taking views.
Whether you choose to adventure all day or enjoy a relaxing morning before heading out to the lake, you’ll enjoy crawling into our cozy beds at night. Let Superior Shores Resort be your home away from home when you spend your spring and summer days along Lake Superior. Book your North Shore resort getaway with us and don’t forget to enjoy a bonfire or stargaze at night near the beach!
