Independence Day is in the rearview mirror, which means it’s time to begin focusing on your upcoming summer stay at Superior Shores Resort! Hopefully, you’re planning on spending a significant amount of time on the stunning, massive Lake Superior. No Two Harbors hotels can match our prime lake and pool access. Spend a sunny Minnesota afternoon kayaking or canoeing up the shore or splashing and soaking in our indoor and outdoor pools. We also highly recommend seeking out Amicus Adventure Sailing in nearby Knife River–their sailing excursions are one of the top North Shore hidden gems. Take our advice and try these summer water activities on your next Superior Shores Resort getaway!
Kayaking, Canoeing, and SUPing
We highly recommend kayaking and canoeing on Lake Superior. Only traverse the strong Lake Superior waves on a SUP if it’s a still day and you’re very skilled and confident. The absolute best location to paddle is in our backyard! Firstly, our stunning, rocky beach is a stone’s throw away. Secondly, our shoreline has breathtaking lake and forest vistas–and the best sunrises and sunsets on the North Shore!
If you’re feeling extra adventurous, take a short drive north to Gooseberry Falls State Park and Split Rock Lighthouse State Park. Gooseberry has a quintessential rocky beach, tall bluffs, and is a short walk from the famous falls. While the falls aren’t rushing in the summer, a bath in the river and under the smaller falls feel quite delightful on a hot Minnesota day! A short drive north to Split Rock Lighthouse should be on the itinerary. Instead of heading up to the lighthouse, take your first right and drive down to the pebble beach overlooking Ellingson Island. Launch from the beach and paddle under the lighthouse and around the island. This quiet locale is one of the best-kept secrets in Minnesota.
For even more exhilarating North Shore water adventure, discover Sawtooth Outfitters in Tofte. They offer guided kayak and canoe trips into the Superior National Forest wilderness as well as runs to Temperance River State Park and Silver Bay. If you’re in the Tofte area, trek up to Oberg Mountain–trust us, the fall foliage is especially awe-inspiring!
Amicus Adventure Sailing
It’s worth noting Amicus Adventure Sailing in nearby Knife River because no one else on the North Shore offers such a pleasant, educational, and exhilarating experience. You’ll be embarking on a two-hour sailing excursion on the pristine, unpredictable waters of Lake Superior. The staff provides history, sailing insight, and encourages voyageurs to help sail the ship! Amicus is equally ideal for couples, families, and large groups.
Splash and Soak at Superior Shores
Other Two Harbor hotels cannot match our Lake Superior access, cozy accommodations, and first-class pools, hot tubs, and saunas! Grab a refreshing beverage at our seasonal cabana bar, relax by our outdoor fire pit, and finish your evening with a sunset campfire overlooking Flood or Burlington Bay. You’ll never forget your summer vacation on the crisp, blue waters of Lake Superior!
